Toronto’s waterfront is getting an overhaul with Cityzen and other prominent Toronto developers front and centre in the transformation. Waterfront Toronto projects significant economic returns for the city. Sam Crignano recently joined a panel of experts brought together by Waterfront Toronto at Corus Quay to brief the media on the advantages of developing the waterfront and creating sustainable solutions to waterfront living.

Next year will be a busy year for us with several projects on the go. The next phase at Pier 27 is in the approval stages and we look forward to bringing it to market next summer. Cherry Street at Cherry and Queen's Quay is our other waterfront project. We're in discussions right now with respect to the approvals with the city and Waterfront Toronto. We're hopeful that the first phase will come to market as early as next summer or early fall.
We last checked in at Pier 27 in April and since then there's been a lot of vertical movement on our Toronto Waterfront site.
We have various crews working in three of the buidlings on site in preparation for work commencing on closing each of the buildings off in the following months.
The vast majority of the underground work is complete and we're looking forward to a great few months progress ahead.

Summer is right around the corner (couldn't you tell?) and we've been pining to get out to the waterfront. Not only do we have a few projects happening there as part of the waterfront revitalization -- which is the largest urban redevelopment project in North America -- but we personally think it's one of the best local places to hang out in the summer.
Here's what we're looking forward to on Toronto's waterfront this year.
Harbourfront Centre
Obviously, Harbourfront is the hub of all summer events and cultural activities when it comes to Toronto's waterfront. The Summer Festival series happens every weekend all summer long. Harbourfront Centre works with over 450 community organizations and hosts more than 4,000 events a year.
General Cruisin'
As much as we love camping up north, we're also pretty thrilled that we can stay in the city and get our yacht on. For those of us who don't have a boating license to appreciate the finer art of water navigation, there are always loads of harbour tours offering good views of Toronto, or you can rent some digs at the Canoe and Kayak centre.
The Power Plant
No word of a lie, but there is always something fascinating happening at the The Power Plant, the waterfront's contemporary art gallery. Although the gallery physically sits in the Harbourfront Centre, it is led by its own Board of Directors. This is the place to be on the water if you want to enjoy internationally-acclaimed contemporary art.
Watermark Irish Pub
There isn't much to say about Watermark except that it's a beautiful pub surrounded by grand boulevards and a pretty view of Lake Ontario. Overall, a great place to walk around and people-watch, or sit at the dock of the bay.
Toronto Islands
One of the most unique parts of Toronto offers wonderful opportunities to hang out and have a picnic on a beach. That's why we love the car-free, pro-ferry Toronto Islands. And many other reasons, like music festivals and looking at cute houses.
The Martin Goodman Trail
We're always obsessing over the next ride at Cityzen, and the Martin Goodman Trail -- which runs from Etobicoke to Scarborough across the waterfront -- tends to satisfy our cycling cravings. We love that the trail offers pedestrian, bicycle and in-line skating lanes.

Designed by architectsAlliance and interior designer Munge Leung, Pier 27 will luxuriously accommodate 303 units and 15 storeys on the waterfront. Here is the latest on construction at Pier 27.
In Phase 1, the 12th floor has been poured on building one. The 8th floor on building two will be poured by the end of the week.
In Phase 2, the fourth floor of building one is complete, and at building two the 2nd floor is complete.
For now, we have to finish Phase 1 and 2 before we move on to Phase 3 which will consist of two short buildings and one tall building in total.
Pier 27's iconic bridge (pictured in the top rendering) will be under construction in June and with expected structural completion by the end of July.

This year has graced Cityzen with tons of activity already. Our sales offices are astir, though we do anticipate the pace of sales this year to be somewhat slower than last year. I think this is a good thing for the industry because it was so overheated last year.
We recently visited the corner of Yonge and The Esplanade in downtown Toronto to see the progress of Daniel Libeskind's L Tower, but we also stopped by the Backstage site to see what was new. Our previous trip to the site in November showed that it was truly at the early stages of preparation for excavation.
This time around, there was a bit more to see. Caisson drilling is roughly 80% complete and the first row of tie-backs on the south side of the site are 20% done. We're still in the early phase of excavation, but the main job for the next few months is to dig, dig, dig.
We hope to reach footing elevations in June. If everything goes as planned, we'll be back at street level early in 2013.

Though it may not look luxurious now, Pier 27 will be screaming prestige at Yonge and Lakeshore in the future.
We visited the Toronto Waterfront site late last week and the progress made since our last visit this past November has been substantial to say the least!
With many different crews on site at the moment, things are going well, especially with the weather.
Work has progressed up to the 7th floor on buidling B1, and up to floor 4 in building B2.
Phase 3 of Pier 27 is currently undergoing approvals, and we hope to bring the project to market in the near future.
